Highland Baseball Falls In Pair of Contests Against Barton

Looking to find games to play the Highland baseball team jumped into a doubleheader in Great Bend, Kansas with the KJCCC West Champions from last year, Barton. The Scotties facing a team that made the JUCO World Series last year faced had a tough task on their hands and fell in a pair of games to the Cougars of Barton falling 10-0 and 13-3 in the doubleheader. The losses keep the Scotties in search of their first win of the season as Highland fell to 0-6 on the year.

Game one saw Barton take the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first and took control of the game with a five run output in the bottom of the second before finishing the game in the bottom of the sixth with a four inning as Highland over the course of the game struggled offensively recording only three hits and two walks for base runners in the contest falling 10-0. Dalton Burt, Brendon Bond (Timmons) and Mason Tittle each recorded a hit in the loss, while on the mound Jake Schrock took the loss working two innings as the starter giving up six runs with only two earned on four hits and three walks.

In game two Barton snagged the early lead again plating a run in the bottom of the first and second innings to lead 2-0 but the Scotties cut the lead in half in the top of the third as Burt had an RBI single to score Jordan McClellan making it 2-1. Barton answered with a three run bottom of the third and scored at least one more run the rest of the game in each inning while Highland had a two run fifth inning on a McClellan two RBI single that scored Jason Gonzalez and Victor Sanchez. In the 13-3 loss the Scotties had just the two hits, while on the mound Dylan Arnett took the loss tossing two innings as the starter giving up three runs on two hits, a walk and hit batter, while he struckout three.

The Scotties continued their road trip by traveling further south to Oklahoma on Friday, February 22nd to play Oklahoma Wesleyan JV in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Highland is scheduled to open KJCCC play this week with a series against Allen County Community College but the weather will likely lead to more changes for the Scottie baseball schedule; stay tuned to Scottieathletics.com for updates.
