Lady Blue Devils Season Ends with Loss to JCCC in Conference Final, 55-50

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team (22-10) fell to Johnson County Community College (31-0), 55-50 Mar. 9 in the championship game of the KJCCC Tournament. The Lady Blue Devils had an impeccable season winning eight conference games, more than 20 wins in the season and five KJCCC Player of the Week recipients.  

The score was tight for most of the game and JCCC didn't lead a single time in the first half. Only seven Lady Blue Devils took part in the championship game compared to 11 for the Cavaliers who led by as many as nine points with just three minutes remaining in the game. However, the Lady Blue Devils fought back and finished the game with just a small five-point difference.

Victoria Jones, leading the team with four assists, struggled to find her rhythm offensively, scoring four points on 2-7 shooting. However, her efforts on the defensive end, grabbing two rebounds and causing four turnovers, were crucial in keeping the game tight. Jada Johnson emerged as the standout performer for Lady Blue Devils delivering an outstanding performance on both ends of the floor. Johnson led all scorers with 26 points, shooting 9-19 from the field and adding nine rebounds to her impressive stat line. Her defensive prowess was also evident, recording four steals and contributing to the team's defensive effort. Sarah Khamis contributed defensively, tallying four steals, despite being unable to convert any field goal attempts. Kaylyn Rogers provided a solid presence in the paint, scoring 11 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Off the bench, Bennett Peck and Jailynn Schmaltz made valuable contributions, combining for nine points and five rebounds. Schmaltz showcased her defensive abilities with two blocks, contributing to the team's overall defensive effort.

For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 38.3 percent from the field (18-47), 18.2 percent from three-point range (2-11) and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line (12-18). Johnson County shot 37.1 percent from the field (23-62), 15.4 percent from three-point range (2-13) and 41.2 percent from the free-throw line (7-17).
