Blue Devils Split Series with Iowa Central, 11-0 and 5-4

The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team (3-3) split with the Iowa Central Tritons (7-5) 11-0 and 5-4 Feb. 24 in Kansas City, Kan.

In the first game, McKenna Lester was the only Blue Devil who recorded a hit. As a team, they only had two strikeouts coming from Sara Portela and Kloey Dawes. Alyssa Droge threw for three innings and let up three hits, three earned runs, three walks and two strikeouts. Hanna Acree threw for the remaining three innings and gave up eight hits, five earned runs and had no walks or strikeouts.

 

For the Tritons, Jayda Long threw for all six innings and only let up one hit with two strikeouts. As a team, they combined for 12 hits, three doubles and one homerun.

 

In game two, the Blue Devils turned things around and recorded 10 hits as a team and no strikeouts. Adrianna Smith had a homerun and went 1 for 3 on the day. Annika Smith went 2 for 3, recorded an RBI and scored one run. Kloey Dawes went 2 for 3 and had one RBI along with one run. Liberty Hawks, McKenna Lester, Adrianna Smith and Sydney Becker all recorded one hit and combines for two RBI's and two runs. Savannah Short had a solid day at the plate going 2 for 3 and would end up getting walked on a 3-1 count in the bottom of the 7th inning for a walk-off win. Alyssa Droge threw for all seven innings and let up nine hits, four runs, four walks and five strikeouts.

The Tritons combined for seven hits, four walks and scored four runs. Jayda Long went 2 for 3 with a team-high three RBI's. Kennedy Palmer had one hit and had the other Triton RBI. Breanna Nolte, Tobi Topp and Reagan Enright all had one hit and scored three runs combined.

 

The next game for the Blue Devils is against Kirkwood at 11 a.m. and Rock Valley at 3 p.m. Mar. 1 in Kansas City, Kan.
