Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Mike Smith

Highland Remains Unbeaten Grabbing Win Over Southeast

Behind another well rounded performance with contributions from everyone, the Highland Men's Basketball team picked up their ninth win of the season improving to 9-0 with the 103-71 win over Southeast Community College giving the team their best start under Head Coach Jerre Cole

After the initial bucket of the game by Southeast and a 2-2 tie, a three-pointer by Andre Jackson in transition gave the Scotties the lead and they didn't look back never giving the lead back and just stretching it out over the course of the contest. Scotties led 15-6 early with Taiveyhon Mason paving the way early with seven of the teams first 15 and then the lead was 12 by halftime at 46-34 as Tristen Hull recorded 11 points in the first half to lead Highland at halftime.

Scotties defense got stronger in the second half and Southeast, who shot over half of their attempts on the night from behind the three-point line, struggled to hit those shots as the Highland lead grew in the second half outscoring the Storm by 20 in the half and used a 10-2 run over the first four minutes of the second half to solidify their lead and ultimately the 103-71 win.

Highland as a team shot 50% from the floor the sixth time this season the team has shot 50% or better in a game, while also forcing 22 Southeast turnovers and turning them in to 39 points and out rebounding the Storm by 12, 47-35.

Mason once again led Highland on the night with a game high 19 points for this ninth double figure performance this season and added six rebounds and five assists. Jaquan Daniels chipped in 17 points, three rebounds and a career high six steals in the win, while Hull tallied a career best 16 points and added eight rebounds. Luiz Machado Jr. also added double figures as he posted 10 points in the win.
