Highland Baseball Wraps Up Season With Series Against Allen

Highland baseball team wrapped up their season at home on Friday and Saturday hosting all four games in a KJCCC series with Allen.

Scotties need a pair of wins to give themselves a chance for the postseason fell short of that that only taking one of the four games. On Friday Highland suffered a tough 4-2 loss in game one and then picked up a 5-3 win in game two. Saturday the Scotties took a tough 1-0 loss in game one, while falling 16-1 in seven innings in game two.

Friday Game 1 vs Allen
Scotties started game one of the four-game series with a bang as Jackson Rehkow blasted a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning to get Highland on the board. Conner Fiene followed with a double and then came around to score to make it 2-0 after just the first inning. Allen had an answer in the top of the second scoring a pair of runs to tie the game at 2-2.

Highland continued to work out of jams throughout the contest to maintain the game at 2-2 until a two-run home run was hit in the top of the sixth by Allen to take the lead and ultimately the game. Scotties had a chance in the bottom of the seventh working the bases loaded with a hit batter, single and walk but was unable to score falling 4-2.

In the loss Justin Rieschick was strong on the mound giving up four runs on seven hits, one walk, a hit batter and struckout four. Rehkow and Nick Schifftner each had a multi-hit game as Rehkow went 2-3 with a home run and walk, while Schifftner was 2-4.

Friday Game 2 vs Allen
Just like game one on Friday game two saw the Scotties take the early lead as Highland worked the bases loaded in the bottom of the second plating a run on a sac-fly by Victor Sanchez. Highland tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third scoring on RBI singles by Nick Schifftner and Alejandro Pina to make it 3-0.

Allen got on the board in the top of the fourth with a run but in the bottom of the fifth the Scotties tallied two more runs as Justin Rieschick laced a RBI single into center field, while Sanchez had an RBI double in the inning making 5-1. Allen tagged two more runs on the board but the Scotties held them off to secure the 5-3 win.

Dylan Arnett paced the way for the Scotties on the mound in the win tossing five and two-third innings for the win giving up three runs on three hits, six walks and hit batter, while striking out seven. In relief Drake Seetin tossed two and a third innings without giving up a run and only gave up one hit and one walk, while striking out two. Austin Gottula tossed a one-two-three ninth inning for the save.

At the plate Schifftner was 2-4 with a run scored and RBI, while Sanchez was 2-3 with two RBI's and a double.

Saturday Game 1 vs Allen
Saturday didn't feature much offense on the day for the Scotties and in game one overall. Highland behind the pitching of Noah McClanahan and strong defense worked out of several jams keeping Allen off the scoreboard until the sixth inning when Allen plated the only run of the game to earn the 1-0 win.

Scotties had a strong starting pitching outing by McClanahan as he tossed five innings without giving up a run on six hits, three walks and one hit batter, while striking out three. Jackson Rehkow and Alejandro Pina each had a hit for the only two hits of the game for the Scotties.

Saturday Game 1 vs Allen
Game two it looked like it was going to be another low scoring affair like game one on Saturday as it was scoreless after two innings but that changed in the third. Allen plated two runs in the third inning and then tallied four runs each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before adding two more in the seventh. Scotties got a run in the bottom of the seventh on a Jackson Rehkow RBI single but it wasn't enough as Highland fell 16-1 in seven innings.

In the loss the Scotties saw Victor Sanchez it a double and score the run, while Rehkow, Conner Fiene and Nash Nickle each had a hit.

With the 1-3 performance in the final series of the season the Scotties wrapped up the 2019 season with an 11-40 overall record and 5-27 mark in the KJCCC action.
