Allen County came to town undefeated in conference play and one of the top teams in the conference but the Scotties held their own to split with the Red Devils to start the series.
Game one:
Two home runs and four total runs were earned by the Red Devils to start the game off with
Zaine Foth-Thomas on the mound.
Ke'Shawn Ballard answered back with an RBI double to left center to get the Scotties on the board, down 1-4.
The Red Devils bats stayed hot in the top of the 2nd where six more runs were earned. Foth-Thomas delivered five strikeouts in his four inning appearance. Ballard stepped up to the plate in the third to hit a three run home run, his fourth this season, making it a 4-10 game.
Rafael Lara stayed on the mound the final three innings for the Scotties.
A two RBI double by
Josue Ortiz and another score for Allen eventually ended the game 11-6.
Game two:
Highland got game two rolling with a 2-0 lead by a single to right field delivered by
Mason Nagle. Skylar Culver for the Red Devils hit a solo home run in the 2nd and again with a two run home run in the 4th but the Scotties stayed ahead 5-2 after a two RBI double by Ortiz, eventually scoring on a wild pitch in the 2nd.
Allen County kept the game intense tying the game back up 5-5 to start the 6th.
Shane Drolet placed a perfectly positioned bunt, allowing Zack Hill to make it home safe to take the lead 6-5. With a tied ballgame yet again in the 8th, with two Scotties on base, Ballard reached first, scoring Ortiz and Watson to help the Scotties win 8-6 over the Red Devils.
The final two games of the series will take place in Iola, KS with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00PM.
