Softball Splits With Cloud, Falls To Cowley

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The KCKCC softball team played Cloud County on Thursday before hosting Cowley County Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils split with Cloud winning 9-0 and falling 9-8. The squad then fell to Cowley 10-6 and 11-5.

The Blue Devils are 18-17 overall and 6-6 in the conference.

KCKCC got a quick win in the first game against Cloud where they run-ruled them in five innings. The scoring was highlighted by a five-run third frame.

Adrianna Smith and Stella Harber each had two hits with Smith also adding four RBI.

In the second game, KCKCC got out to a 5-1 lead after three innings. Cloud would score seven unanswered runs after and hold the Blue Devils to one run in the seventh to inch past KCKCC for a victory.

Savannah Short, Maya Sheldon and Kaitlyn Bradbury each had two RBI.

In the doubleheader against Cowley, KCKCC took a 4-3 lead in the third inning of game one after trailing 3-0. Both teams traded runs in the fifth inning as Cowley led 8-6 before they added a pair of runs in the sixth, to later seal the win.

(Adrianna) Smith and Short each had two hits and two RBI. One of Smith's hits was a home run.

In the final game of the doubleheader, Cowley sprinted out to an 10-1 lead. KCKCC added four runs in the bottom of the sixth, before the Tigers tacked on a run in the seventh to claim the win.

Sheldon led the way with two RBI.

KCKCC will host Highland on Monday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
