Scotties Start Series with Win over Coffeyville

The Scotties took on the Coffeyville Ravens in their first two games of the series on Thursday at the Highland Community Ballpark, came out firing in game one taking a quick 3-0 lead, and would eventually win 9-5. An uneventful game two saw only two runs scored by the Ravens in nine innings; Scotties losing 2-0 to split on the day.
 
GAME ONE
With Blake Van Hercke on the mound striking out two of his first three batters to face on the day, the Scotties put three runs on the board with Henning scoring on an error, Josue Ortiz with an RBI single, and Jackson Rehkow with an RBI single scoring Procopio.
Coffeyville's B. Mitchell tied the game 3-3 on a 3-run home run but the Scotties quickly took control back in the B2 with Mason Nagle hitting a ball passed the 2nd baseman to score Justin Rieschick and Jordan Henning. Three more runs were scored giving the Scotties an 8-3 lead.
 
 The bottom of the 5th saw the final run scored in the game with a single to right field by Rieschick scoring Watson. Van Hercke earned the win on the mound and is now 1-1 on the year.
 
GAME TWO
Zack Hill started on the mound for Highland for his 4th appearance for the Scotties seeing 17 batters and striking out three. Skyler Zirkle, Jared Wells, and Chris Giordano all took the mound in the 0-2 loss to the Ravens.
Josue Ortiz had the only hit in the game in the bottom of the 2nd with a single to center field.
 
The Scotties are now 15-23 on the season and 6-20 in conference play. They will travel to Coffeyville on Saturday to play the final two games of the series.
