High Energy Helps the Scotties to a 3-0 Win

The Highland Scottie volleyball team took on the Allen Community College Red Devils who had a 3-4 record coming into this match.

The Scotties started the first set with high energy. Leslie Polanco had a great kill and Tyrecia Lukes and Josie Vitosh had a stuff block, forcing the Allen Red Devils to call their first timeout at 7-2. With a few errors under their belt, and Marianna Falls taking control at the net for the Scotties, the Red Devils called another timeout, 12-4. The Scotties were in control the rest of the set. Falls and Polanco ended the set with three big kills making the final set score 25-13.

Shailey Caudle and Tyrecia Lukes started the second set with back to back kills. With the score 11-8, the Red Devils called a time out. The Scotties were resilient on the net and with their backrow digs which held the Red Devils down, 18-10 as they called their second time out of the game. The Red Devils started to inch their way back as they went on a five point run, forcing the Scotties to a timeout at 20-14. This proved to help as they Scotties came back out and finished the set 25-16.

Lukes and Polanco took control for the Scotties, scoring eight points to start the third set and held the Red Devils to only three points as they took their first timeout. Only allowing three points, and going on a large run of their own, the Scotties forced the Red Devils to call their last time out at 14-6. Playing comfortably the rest of the set, the Scotties ended the match 25-10.

Tyrecia Lukes led the team in kills with 10 and a .261 hitting percentage while adding on six blocks with the help of Rhule and Vitosh. The team had another great service ace column with six. Megan Rhule had 27 set assists and Marianna Falls had a great defensive game as she led the team with 11 digs.

Coach Bingesser reflected on the week, "I thought the team's emphasis on their focus during this week's practices was phenomenal and it was nice for them to keep their minds on track during the match."

The Scotties bettered their record to 9-3 and will play their next game Wednesday, September 21st at Coffeyville.
