It was back into the win column for the #10 Highland women's basketball team on Wednesday night as the Scotties traveled to Fort Scott to take on the Greyhounds and picked up an 86-62 win on the road.
The win moves the Scotties to 19-3 on the season and 3-2 in the KJCCC, while giving the team their 15
th straight win over Fort Scott in the series with the Greyhounds.
Scotties took the early lead and led by as many as seven points in the first quarter ultimately 21-16 at the end of the first stanza. While Fort Scott made some early advances in the second quarter Highland grew their lead to double figures for the first time on the night at 31-21 with 4:51 left before halftime and with a 20-11 second quarter led 41-27 at the half.
Second half Highland used their double figure lead to hold Fort Scott at bay and finished the game with a 27-19 fourth quarter to secure the 86-62 win.
Highland shot 46.8% from the floor on the night while going 22-32 from the free throw line and won the rebounding battle 47-32. Scotties while struggling with turnovers having 25 in the contest were able to force 26 turnovers on the Greyhounds and record 17 steals and six blocks in the game.
Leading the charge for the Scotties was a career performance by
Stefania Chiziane as she posted a career in points and rebounds notching her first career double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Chiziane added seven steals going 10-18 from the floor and 8-9 from the free throw line.
Janiya Davis added a double-double of her own with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while
Tiana Gipson tallied 14 points and four assists.
