Scotties fall on the road to Butler CC

The #14 Highland Scotties lose their second game of the season on the road to Butler CC 8-26.

Turnovers and field position played a big part in the Scotties 8-26 loss Saturday night in El Dorado, KS.  Butler scored first after a Luke Winter field goal late in the first quarter. On the ensuing possession, Highland marched 72 yards down the field and capped the drive off with a Marquis Terry 3 yard touchdown run. Highland was successful on the 2-point conversion with another Marquis Terry run, this time for two points and the lead. Highland led 8-3 at the end of the first quarter.

After Highland's kickoff, Butler took over at the Highland 42 yard line. The defense held strong and only allowed a field goal. Highland still led Butler 8-6 with 12 minutes remaining in the first half.

A Kahlil Render interception on the next possession would set up Butler at mid field. Strong play by the defense would back Butler up and force them to punt on a 4th and long. A great punt by Butler would bury Highland at their own two yard line. With the offense unable to get things going, Highland was forced to punt out of their own end zone and giving Butler the ball at the Highland 26 yard line.

Three plays and 26 yards later, Butler scored their first touchdown of the game giving them their first lead of the night 13-8.

Highland gave up their third turnover of the first half with 5:57 to play in the second quarter on a Marquis Terry fumble. The fumble left the Highland defense in a tough spot but they were able to force a field goal that was missed wide right.

Still no offensive momentum from Highland and Butler forced a punt with 2:39 remaining in the half. Butler put together a 7 play 24 yard drive and came up with another field goal to end the first half. Butler took a 16-8 lead into the locker-room.

Butler came out strong in the second half scoring on their first possession and taking a 23-8 lead half way through the third. The Highland offense was still unable to get things moving forcing them to punt four times in the second half and turning it over on downs twice.

Butler capped off their scoring on a field goal with 10:51 remaining in the game. The Highland offense showed some life on their last possession of the game as Tristan Speer pieced together an 11 play 78 yard drive that came up just short of the end zone as time expired.

Butler (3-3) defeated #14 Highland (4-2) 26-8.

Highland travels to Independence CC on Saturday, October 15 and play the (1-4) Pirates at 7:00pm.
