Blue Devils Split with Ottawa, 3-1 and 10-2

The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team (1-3) split with the Ottawa Braves JV (1-1) 3-1 and 10-2 Feb. 22 in Kansas City, Kan.

In the first game, Savannah Short led the offense with two hits. Adrianna Smith went 1 for 3 from the plate and knocked in an RBI with her double. Liberty Hawks went 1 for 2 and had one strikeout. Hanna Acree threw for 5.2 innings and had six hits, one earned run, one walk and a solid four strikeouts. Alyssa Droge threw for one inning and let up three hits, two earned runs with one strikeout. Alexis Smith had .1 innings and only let up one hit.

 

In game two, the Blue Devils turned things around quickly and connected on the bats early with an early 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning. McKenna Lester went 3 for 4 with a team-high three RBIs. She also scored twice. Kloey Dawes also had an impressive day at the plate going 3 for 4 with one RBI. Annika Smith and Sara Portela both tallied two hits and added three Blue Devil runs. Adrianna Smith, Savannah Short and Kylie Vandervoort all had one hit and added five RBIs. Vandervoort scored two off a triple in the bottom of the 5th inning with two outs. Short ended the game in the bottom of the 6th inning by scoring two runs off a hard hit double. Landri Lopez threw for 3.1 innings and let up a strong three hits, one earned run and had two strikeouts. Lillian Fisher pitched .2 innings and had one hit. Hanna Acree came into the game to close the final two innings and only let up two hits and one earned run.

 

The next game for the Blue Devils is against Iowa Central at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Feb. 24 in Kansas City, Kan.
