Baseball Chalks up Two Mid-Week Victories

The Highland Scotties traveled to Ottawa, KS to take on a double header with game one vs the Braves JV team followed by University of St. Mary Spires JV. The Scotties had no trouble in a 10-0 shut-out against the Braves and came back from a 3-7 deficit to take the game against the Spires 11-8.

 

GAME ONE

HCC 10 Braves 0

 

Highland wasted no time putting runs on the board in the 1st inning of the game starting with Jordan Henning hitting a lead-off double. Josue Ortiz switched places with Henning with an RBI double to center field. Jackson Rehkow and Mason Nagle both got on base, and Tanner Williams hit an RBI single to help a 2-0 lead. Dalton Burt hit a sac fly to score Rehkow and Nagle would eventually score on a wild pitch to give the Scotties a 4-0 lead.

 

The 2nd and 3rd innings both saw a run by an RBI single from Ortiz and Williams scoring on a fielders choice. A 9-0 lead was earned after the 4th from Henning scoring on an error and Mason Nagle with a 2 RBI double to right center.

 

Highland would eventually win 10-0 with Rehkow scoring the final run on a wild pitch. Zackery Biddison pitched all six innings for the Scotties throwing two strikeouts and seeing 21 at bats, now 1-1 on the season.

 

GAME TWO

HCC 11 Spires 8

The Spires came out swinging taking a quick 5-0 lead over the Scotties through three full innings with Jake Cleveringa on the mound with an eventual pitching change to Cole Petersen. In the top of the 4th, bases were loaded and Dalton Burt hit a big 3 RBI double to left field to close the scoring gap 3-5.

 

After two more runs by the Spires in a the 4th and a pitching change to Justin Rieschick, Highland answered back with Henning scoring a run in the 5th, now down 4-7.

 

Adam Miner hit a solo homerun, his first this season, in the 6th; Scotties down 5-8. The 7th inning saw a six runs scored by Highland starting with Tyler Watson hiting an RBI double to left field. Burt's 2 RBI single to left field tied the game 8-8 and Zack Hill hit a hard ball off the left field fence for a 3 RBI double to win the game 11-8.

 

The Scotties are now 14-22 on the year and will host the first round of the series against Coffeyville on Thursday, April 12th with the first pitch scheduled for 2:00PM.
