It was a role reversal from the first time around on January 28
th as the #10 Highland women's basketball team repaid the favor against #4 Johnson County by picking up the 92-70 win.
The win moves Highland to 20-3 on the season and 4-2 in KJCCC play and in second play in the Conference by a half game. It also marks the third win over Johnson County in the last four matchups with all three wins by 20+ points.
Behind four early points from
Tuana Dinc the Scotties went up 9-2 over the first three minutes of the contest and established an 18-7 lead by the 4:44 mark of the quarter, ultimately leading 26-16 after one frame. The lead grew to as high as 16 points at 36-20 in the second quarter and the Scotties took a 44-33 lead into halftime with
Janiya Davis notching 16 first half points.
The lead was cut to single digits early in the second half as Johnson County made multiple advances in the second half getting as close as 54-50 with 3:43 in the third quarter. Highland had answers to the Cavaliers runs pushing the lead back to 11 by the end of the third quarter at 65-54 finishing the frame on an 11-0 run. Scotties then finished the game with a 27-16 fourth quarter to secure the 92-70 win and avenge the loss earlier in the season against Johnson County.
Scotties shot 45.3% from the floor marking the 19
th game this season shooting 40+% as a team and drained nine three-pointers. Highland also shared the ball well with 19 assists and have seven blocks in the contest, while being +4 in the rebounding edge. Johnson County was held to 34.8% shooting in the contest.
Five ladies led Highland tallying double figures as Davis paced the Scotties with 25 points marking the seventh 20+ point performance for her this season and added eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Stefania Chiziane added 21 points giving her third straight 20+ point performance and 11
th overall this season. Chiziane added six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Khaliah Hines matched her career high in points and rebounds with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Dinc tallied a near double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. For the first time this season
Keondra White had double figures finishing with 10 points (scored 8+ points in four of last five games), adding four rebounds and four assists.
