Blue Devils Win Regular Season Title with Win Over Hesston, 78-55

The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team (21-9, 12-2) squashed Hesston College (16-12, 5-9), 78-55 Feb. 28 at MCC-Penn Valley. KCKCC won the KJCCC regular season title with an overall record of 21-9 and conference record of 12-2. The last time the Blue Devils won the regular season was in the 2019-20 season.

On sophomore night, Jaylon Moses shined bright with a career-high 25 points and seven rebounds. Pierce Ross finished with 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal while coming off the bench. Mikequese Taylor tallied 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. BJ Stewart finished the night with eight points, four rebounds, two steals and one block. Camron Williford had a team-high six assists along with six points. The Sophomores that were recognized in between the games were Caleb Jones, Dewayne Robinson, Jaylon Moses, Reginald Morris and Michael Everett.

Rob Gambill led the Larks with 22 points, four blocks and three steals. Gambill shot an impressive 6 of 9 from behind the arc while Larry Ruffin went 8 for 8 from the free-throw line and finished with 12 points and five assists. Montreal Myles had eight points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

For the game, the Blue Devils shot 44.7 percent from the field (34-76), 13 percent from three-point range (3-23) and 46.7 percent from the free-throw line (7-15). Hesston shot 36 percent from the field (18-50), 41.2 percent from three-point range (7-17) and 100 percent from the free-throw line (12-12).

The next game for the Blue Devils will be March 4 at MCC-Penn Valley for the first round of the KJCCC post-season tournament. The opponent will be determined after the remaining regular season games have been played.
