Highland Sweeps Cloud County In Home Conference Action

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Highland softball rolled up two more KJCCC wins with a Scottie sweep on Wednesday winning 10-2 in six innings and 10-2 in five innings over Cloud County.

With the wins the Scotties moved to 24-10 on the season and 13-5 in Conference play with only one KJCCC doubleheader left in the regular season.

Scotties got things rolling in the first game in the bottom of the first by sending seven to the plate and scoring three on three hits and a hit batter with a RBI single by Hannah Schmidt highlighting the inning. It remained 3-0 with Highland working around multiple Cloud County runners over the next four innings. In the fifth the Scotties tacked on two more runs with a RBI single by Alley Rickel highlighting the frame. Cloud County got their only runs on a two-run home run in the top of the sixth but the Scotties answered to cap the game in the bottom of the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth the Scotties got a runner on via error, then a walk and then a single to open the inning and then McKinley Jeanneret put down an RBI bunt single and it was followed by a two RBI single by Kami Zimmerman to highlight a five run sixth to finish the game 10-2.

Bailey Lacy tossed another complete game earning the win going six innings giving up just two runs on five hits and no walks, while striking out four. Leading the charge offensively was Alyssa Wesley who went 3-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases as the Scotties stole a season game high eight bases in the game as a team. Cassidy Greer was 1-1 with a pair of walks, while Rickel was 1-1 with two RBI's and a walk.

Game two saw Cloud County take the early lead with a two-run home run but in the bottom of the second inning the Scotties took the lead behind seven runs and never gave the lead back. In the bottom of the second a leadoff walk, followed by a hit got two on when Jeanneret blasted her first collegiate home run a three run shot to give Highland the lead. A hit with two outs and a hit batter got two more on for the Scotties in the second when Alexis Hodapp blasted a ball out for a three-run homer and then Wesley capped the scoring in the second for Highland with a RBI double.

Hodapp notched her first career triple to leadoff the fourth inning and came into score in the inning as Highland plated two runs in the fourth and led 9-2 entering the fifth. Needing a run in the bottom of the fifth to finish the game Schmidt opened the inning with a hit and a Cloud County error later in the inning allowed Schmidt to score and finish the game 10-2 in five innings.

Offensively the Scotties saw Wesley have another strong game going 1-2 with a double, two RBI's, run scored, walk and reached on an error. Hodapp finished 2-3 with a home run, three RBI's, a triple and two runs scored, while Isabella Konieczka went 2-4 with a run scored, stolen base and reached on an error to bring in the final run of the game. Kelly Uthe earned the win in the circle tossing five innings giving up two runs on six hits and a walk, while striking out three.

Scotties look to keep rolling on Friday, April 19th when they travel to take on Metropolitan Community College and then wrap up KJCCC play on Monday, April 22nd at home against Neosho County.
