No. 17 Blue Devils Sneak by Allen, 5-4 and 8-7

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team (23-3) took down Allen Community College (15-16) 5-4 and 8-7 Mar. 23 at the KCKCC baseball field. The Blue Devils were down 4-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning in game 1 and answered to send the game to extra innings. Brady Kern hit a sac fly in the bottom of the eighth to score Freddie Nolen IV from third base for a walk-off win. In the first game, Gehrig Goldbeck had one hit in four at-bats, scoring one run. Peyton Basler stood out with two hits in two at-bats, scoring one run and driving in one run with two walks. Jackson Mervosh contributed with two hits in four at-bats, driving in two runs, and Jase Woita managed two hits in three at-bats, driving in one run and drawing one walk while also striking out once. Marcus Dierks, Nolen and Tanner Pachorek each had one hit. Nolen also scored two runs and drove in one run, while Pachorek and Kern each drove in a run. Aaron Lewis threw for 4.2 innings and let in four runs, two earned, from six Red Devil hits and two walks. He also managed to strikeout seven batters as well. Dalton Smith came in and threw for the remaining 3.1 innings while letting up just one hit and tallied five strikeouts. For the second game, Basler had two hits in five at-bats, scoring two runs and driving in two runs. Goldbeck reached base an impressive three times out of two at-bats, scoring two runs, and Mervosh contributed with one double and one RBI in five at-bats. Woita had a productive game with two hits in two at-bats, driving in three runs and drawing two walks and recorded a double. Dierks and Nolen each reached base twice via walks. Frankie Santiago and Kern both contributed with hits, with Kern driving in a run from his double. Donovan Johnson started the game and let up five runs in his three innings of work while recording five strikeouts. Will Bartkoski tallied the win and only let in one run in his two innings of work, and Nathaniel Uglialoro and Gavin Killion finished the game and brought home the win. The next game for the Blue Devils is against Hutchinson Community College at 1 p.m. Mar. 26 at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson, Kan.
