Lady Blue Devils Lose to North Central Missouri in Overtime Thriller, 89-80

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team (5-5) fell to the North Central Missouri Pirates (10-1) 89-80 Saturday afternoon at Rockhurst University. The Lady Blue Devils were down 71-67 with just 18 seconds left but managed to find a way to send the game into overtime.

 

Jada Johnson recorded a double-double with a season high 36 points and 13 rebounds. She shot an impressive 14-25 from the field, 3-7 from three-point range, 5-5 from the free-throw line and had three steals. Symiah Bradley was the only other Blue Devil who scored in double figures and ended the day with 10 points and seven rebounds. Victoria Jones led the team with five assists and also had two steals and nine points.

 

The Pirates had five in double figures for the game. Jessica Reeter (20), Tori Meinecke (16), Gladys Brown (14), Oliviya Tinoco (13) and LaKorria Brown (10). In overtime, the Pirates went 5-7 from the field and converted 7-12 from behind the free-throw line. Nateonia Russell led them in overtime defensively with three steals.

 

For the game, the Blue Devils shot 44.4 percent from the field (28-63), 27.8 percent from three-point range (5-18) and 63.3 percent from the free-throw line (19-30). The Pirates shot 41 percent from the field (25-61), 35 percent from three-point range (7-20) and 61.5 percent from the free-throw line (32-52). The Blue Devils and Pirates both had 34 points in the paint.

 

The next game for the Lady Blue Devils is against the Metropolitan Wolves at 5 p.m. Dec. 5 at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley.
