Another long road trip took its toll on Kansas City Kansas Community College's women's soccer team Sunday.

Dodge City knocked the No. 10 ranked Blue Devils out of the Jayhawk Conference lead with a 2-0 win and set up a treacherous final stretch run. Four of the Blue Devils' final six opponents are nationally ranked.

The loss at Dodge City dropped the Blue Devils (6-2-2) to fourth in the tightly bunched Jayhawk behind No. 7 Barton (7-1-2), No. 13 Hutchinson (6-1-3) and No. 12 Cowley (5-1-3) and just ahead of No. 17 Butler (4-3-3). The Blue Devils, who are 8-2-2 overall, will face all four in the next three weeks - three at home.

The first big hurdle comes Wednesday when KCKCC hosts Butler at 5 p.m. The two teams battled to a 1-1 deadlock in El Dorado in their first meeting.

Missed opportunities foiled the Blue Devils at Dodge City. KCKCC launched 24 shots, 19 in the second half only to have goalkeeper Lucia Martinez Garcia turn away all 11 shots on goal. Karli Angle had six saves for KCKCC. The hosts grabbed a 1-0 lead early when Mariam El Mir Tarouri scored an unassisted goal just nine minutes into the game. The Conquistadors made it 2-0 on a Femke Wiedeman goal at 32:13.

"Dodge was good," KCKCC Coach Shawn Uhlenhake said. "We struggled to adjust and made a couple of mistakes that cost us. This league is one of the best I've seen since I've been here. We learned a lot today, and I'm sure we will respond accordingly."
