No. 1 TJC women's soccer scores 2-0 win over No. 12 Butler

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. — No. 1 Tyler Junior College defeated No. 12 Butler (Kansas) Community College 2-0 in a women's soccer match on Saturday at Rose State College.

Bianca Roman, a sophomore from Fort Worth, and Akane Takada, a sophomore from Narashino Chiba, Japan, each scored for the Apache Ladies. Assists were from Anakaren Gonzalez, a freshman from Birmingham, Alabama, and Shaylee Anaya, a sophomore from Katy.

Goalkeeper Sydney Malmstrom, a freshman from Whitehouse, played most of the game before exiting with an injury. Andrea Neves, a sophomore from Hamburg, Germany was in goal for the final 15 minutes.

TJC (1-0-1) opens Region XIV play on Tuesday, traveling to Jacksonville College for a 4:30 p.m. game.

The Apache Ladies open their home slate on Friday, Aug. 31 against Angelina College at Pat Hartley Field. The game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. They will also Blinn at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1.

The No. 1 and defending national champion TJC men's soccer team opens its season on Tuesday at Jacksonville. The match has a 7 p.m. start. The Apaches' home opener is Friday, Aug. 31 against Angelina at 7 p.m. They will also play Blinn at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1.
