JCCC women’s soccer win Region 6 title, District Championship next

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 7-ranked Johnson County women's soccer team defeated Allen Community College 2-0 in the final of the NJCAA Region 6 Division II Championship.  It is the eighth championship in program history, but the first since 2009. 

Up next, the Cavaliers (15-2-2) continue postseason play at Norfolk, Neb., Friday, November 3 in the final of the North Plains District Championship. Kickoff against No. 5 Northeast Community College (18-1-1) is scheduled for noon. The winner will advance to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament November 12-18 at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz. 

Johnson County got the scoring going in the 20th minute when sophomore forward Megan Everhart found the back of the net of a feed from freshman forward Jenna Knight, her 10th assist on the season. For Everhart it was 18th goal and 50th point of her career. She is the 31st player to reach 50 career points.

Johnson County upped their advantage in 68th minute when Knight scored off a feed from sophomore midfielder Alandra Baily. It was Knight's ninth score of the season. She leads the team in goals scored and points with 28 and is second to sophomore midfielder Sydney Hammett in assists, who leads with 11. 

Freshman goalkeeper Maddox Fergus stopped all three shots she faced for her fifth shutout of the year. She stands 7-1-0 overall with a goals against average of 0.75.
