Scotties Battle at Cowtown Classic

After two tough losses of Scottie softball's opening season to Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa, HCC travelled down to participate in the Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, Texas.

In the first showing of the classic, the Scotties took on Hill College with Julisa Ortega as their starting pitcher. To start out the first inning, Aubry Hernandez hit a homerun scoring Kenzie Garvin and Maddie Moore. With Maddy Miller hitting an RBI in the 3rd and Hill College having 2 scores of their own on the board, the Scotties took a huge lead in the 4th inning with Sydney Anderson hitting a homerun scoring two and Maddy Miller and Julisa Ortega each hitting an RBI made the score 9-3. College Hill had a big 6th inning scoring 4 but the Scotties fired back in the 7th inning with Kayla Ross hitting 2 RBI's and Aubry hitting her 4th RBI the Scotties win 12-8.

The second game of the day was against Northern Oklahoma College Enid and the Scottie found themselves unable to score until the 4th inning after being behind 0-2. Ortega stepped up to hit a single scoring two RBI's and in the 5th inning Aubry Hernandez finds a way to get Anderson home and Maddy Miller does the same scoring Hernandez. Northern Oklahoma scored four runs in the bottom of the 6th, and the Scotties were unable to answer back losing 4-6.

HCC took on Iowa Central CC in their third game of the Cowtown Classic and found themselves down 0-4 heading into the bottom of the 5th. The Scotties battled back with Garvin and Moore getting on base on their own hits and Kayla Ross hitting a double scoring Garvin and Moore. Maddy Miller gets her bat swinging hitting 2 RBI's and the Scotties get two more on the board in the bottom of the 6th, winning 7-4.

The last showing of the weekend in Fort Worth, the Scotties take full control against Eastern Oklahoma State College scoring steady throughout each inning. Haley Donaldson was the Scotties starting pitcher. Garvin, Moore, Miller, Kayla Ross, and Sam Hill all hit an RBI helping finish with a 7-2 victory.

Kayla Ross had a total of 6 RBI's on the weekend and went 8-17 with 3 runs scored. Kenzie Garvin had a great weekend going 10-14 with 5 runs scored and 1 RBI. Hernandez stood out with 6 RBI's of her own while hitting 7-16. Maddie Moore had a great showing against Hill College going 4-5 with 3 runs scored along with Sam Moran having a great game against Iowa Central going 2-4 with 3 RBI's.

The Scotties will play a double-header on Tuesday, February 21st in Kansas City, Mo. Against MCC-Maple Woods at 1:00PM and 3:00PM. HCC is now 3-3 overall on the 2017 spring season.
