Blue Devils Lose Tight Game to Hesston, 80-75

The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team (14-9, 5-2) fell to the Hesston College Larks (15-6, 4-3), 80-75 Feb. 3 in Hesston, Kan. The Blue Devils made it a 3-point game with 49 seconds remaining off a Jaylon Moses layup, but could not close the gap any further before time expired.

Camron Williford displayed scoring versatility with 7-of-17 shooting, including two 3-pointers. Williford led the team with 17 points and contributed across the board with six assists, five rebounds and two steals. BJ Stewart recorded a double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, showcasing a strong all-around performance. He led the team in rebounds while shooting 3 of 6 from behind the arc. Jaylon Moses showcased efficiency with a 5 of 9-shooting performance and contributed significantly with eight rebounds. He finished with 15 points. Reginald Morris connected on two 3-pointers and ended the night with 13 points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds. Pierce Ross and Mason Jones both came off the bench and scored seven points each while combining for three rebounds, four assists and one steal.

Luke McGinnis led the scoring for Hesston with an impressive performance, including four 3-pointers and 10 rebounds, securing a double-double. He led the team with 22 points. Montreal Myles contributed 15 points and showcased efficiency with a 6-of-10 shooting performance. Larry Ruffin tallied 15 points and six rebounds. Quez Wright provided the team with eight points, four rebounds and two assists. Jammial Hicks Jr. came off the bench and contributed 13 points, two rebounds and two assists.

For the game, the Blue Devils shot 42 percent from the field (29-69), 26.7 percent from three-point range (8-30) and 60 percent from the free-throw line (9-15). The Larks shot 42.9 percent from the field (27-63), 47.4 percent from three-point range (9-19) and 89.5 percent from the free-throw line (17-19). Both teams brought down 36 rebounds and had 20 assists each.  

The next game for the Blue Devils is against the Neosho County Community College Panthers at 8 p.m. Feb. 7 at MCC-Penn Valley.
