Blue Devils Turn Strong Second Half Lead Into Win Over Highland, 71-64

The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team (11-8, 2-1) took down the Highland Community College Scotties (12-8, 2-2), 71-64 Jan. 20 in Highland, Kan. The Blue Devils scored 25 points in the first half but erupted for 46 points in the second half to secure the victory. Caleb Jones dropped 11 of the 46 points in the second half.

Jaylon Moses finished the night with a 16 point and 10 rebound double double, his first of the season. Jones also finished with 16 points and brought down five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Mikequese Taylor came off the bench and put down nine points, two rebounds and one assist. Reginald Morris went 3-11 from the field and tallied eight points with three rebounds, one assist and one steal. Camron Williford and BJ Stewart finished with six points each and combined for 14 points, three assists, three steals and one block.

The Scotties were led by Chris Flippin and finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, two steals and one assist. Josh Owens tallied 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal. The three other starters, Bubba Leavell, Tosh Lyons and Kellen Marshall, combined for a total of 21 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and three steals. Dayton DeVaughan (6) and Dayveon Turner (3) were the only other scorers for the Scotties.

For the game, the Blue Devils shot 42.3 percent from the field (30-71), 25 percent from three-point range (6-24) and 55.6 percent from the free-throw line (5-9). The Scotties shot 38.7 percent from the field (24-62), 26.1 percent from three-point range (6-23) and 58.8 percent from the free-throw line (10-17).

The next game for the Blue Devils is against the Highland Community College Scotties at 8 p.m. Jan. 24 at MCC-Penn Valley.
