2-1 Win Sets Up Pivotal Test for Blue Devils

Kansas City Kansas Community College men's soccer team pounded the Seward County goal so much in the second half that it finally collapsed in a 2-1 loss to the Blue Devils Wednesday night.

Deadlocked 1-1 at halftime, the Blue Devils launched a dozen shots including seven on goal the final 45 minutes. The game-winning goal came 15 minutes into the second half and was initiated by a long pass from freshman defender Zak Hiles of Raymore-Peculiar into the Seward penalty area and redirected by freshman midfielder Noah Conover of Olathe Northwest to a former Northwest teammate, sophomore forward Jacob Thomas, who blasted it into the net.

The win sets up a key contest Sunday for the Blue Devils. Currently in fourth place in the Jayhawk Conference at 2-3-2, a win at Dodge City (3-3-2) would vault KCKCC into third place behind Barton (6-0-1) and Cowley (5-1). The Blue Devils and Dodge City will kick off at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Seward took a 1-0 lead just 10 minutes into Wednesday's contest, the goal coming on a free kick after a KCKCC foul outside the 18-yard box. The Blue Devils tied it at the 23:00 mark, sophomore Ajay Stewart heading in a perfectly placed corner kick from Jacob Thomas.

Seward managed only four shots compared to 19 by the Blue Devils. Freshman Franco Briani Brunoro went the distance in goal for the Blue Devils, who are 3-3-2 overall.
