Trivino assists Lady Matadors in 3-1 win over Cisco

CHEYENNE, WY – Sophomore Setter Evelyn Trivino recorded 38 assists to help Arizona Western Volleyball (1-0) back from a 1-0 deficit to beat Cisco (0-1) 3-1 in the season opener at the Scooter's Coffee Invitational in Garden City, Kan.

After falling in the opening set, the Lady Matadors jumped out quickly in the second set, taking an early 10-5 lead before stretching the lead to 16-7. Arizona Western was able to fend off a late run from the Wranglers, taking the second set 25-18.

The third set was back-and-forth early before the Lady Matadors were able to stretch out a 19-13 lead thanks to an 8-3 run. The Lady Matadors took the third set 25-17. Cisco took an early lead in the fourth set but Arizona Western used a late run to pull away from the Wranglers, taking the fourth set 25-18, winning the match three sets to one.

Amanda Juliao led the Lady Matadors with 13 kills while freshman Gabriela Martensson finished with 12 kills. Aly Reeser led the Lady Matadors in digs with 14.

Arizona Western wraps up the first day of the Scooter's Coffee Invitation at 5:00 pm MST, taking on the hosts Garden City at Conestoga Arena.
