Blue Devils Scoot by Neosho for Conference Opener, 67-64

The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team (10-7) defeated Neosho County Community College (9-7), 67-64 Jan. 13 in Chanute, Kan. Caleb Jones led the Blue Devils with 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. This makes the fourth game this season that Jones has finished with at least 16 points and eight consecutive games he has finished in double digits.

The only other Blue Devil to finish in double figures was Reginald Morris who finished with 10 points, five assists, one steal and one block. Both, O'shawn Jones-Winslow and BJ Stewart finished with eight points each and combined for 13 rebounds, four assists and one steal. Jaylon Moses had eight points and two rebounds. Mikequese Taylor came off the bench and tallied seven points, one rebound, one assist and one steal. Mason Jones recorded his first career points as he shot 1-3 from the field and ended with three points, three assists, one rebound and one assist.

The Panthers had four players finish in double figures, Michael Doria (16), Shaun Holmes (14), Peter Obeng (13) and Isaiah Howell (13). Those four players combined for 56 of the 64 points. Elgin Govan finished with six points, two assists and one block. There was only one player who scored from the Panthers bench - Jordayn Buhrle who had two points and three rebounds.

For the game, the Blue Devils shot 48.1 percent from the field (26-54), 31.6 percent from three-point range (6-19) and 56.3 percent from the free-throw line (9-16). The Panthers shot 47.1 percent from the field (24-51), 35 percent from three-point range (7-20) and 52.9 percent from the free-throw line (9-17).

The next game for the Blue Devils is against the Johnson County Community College Cavaliers at 8 p.m. Jan. 17 at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley.
