Highland Women Cruise Past Bethany JV Posting Season Best Numbers In Win

The #3 Highland Women's basketball team cruised past Bethany College JV on Wednesday afternoon 106-21 to earn their 15th win of the season  improving to 15-1 on the year.

Using several season best marks as a team the Scotties dominated the matchup against Bethany JV. The contest started slow as the Scotties tallied the first points of the game at the 8:10 mark but led only 4-3 with 7:03 left in the first quarter. Highland then pushed the lead out from that point on finishing the first half outscoring Bethany 14-2 in the seven minutes of the first quarter. The lead continued to grow in the second quarter and behind forcing 30 first half Bethany turnovers the Scotties led 49-9 at halftime.

Scotties went on to outscore Bethany 32-6 in the third quarter and 25-6 in the fourth quarter holding the Swedes to just 21 points which is the lowest points scored by a Highland opponent this season surpassing 27 points scored by Bacone College in the season opener back on November 2nd.

On top of allowing a season low in points Highland forced a season best 55 turnovers by the Swedes in the game and recorded a season high 36 steals in the win, while also allowing Bethany to shot just 14.3% from the floor (5-35) which is a season low by Scottie opponents. Highland themselves shot 53.8% from the floor in the contest and had five players tally double figure performances.

Daisah Purnell paced the Scotties with 21 points on 7-12 shooting including six three-pointers and added five steals and three rebounds, while Stefania Chiziane also chipped in 20 points, adding seven steals, five rebounds and two assists. Janiya Davis, Tymia Wallace and Armani Turner each finished with double figures on the day, also. Davis scored 17 points, had six steals and four rebounds, while Wallace had her first double figure performance since her early season injury finishing with 14 points and added six steals and four rebounds. Turner chipped in 13 points and went 5-5 from the free throw line.
