Blue Devils Sweep Barton, 9-5 and 9-3

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team (7-2) swept the Barton Community College Cougars (6-4) 9-5 and 9-3 Feb. 24 in Kansas City, Kan.

In the first game, Gehrig Goldbeck went 1 for 2 from the plate and his one hit was a two-run homerun to the left field wall. Bryson Vawter had a solo homerun and also scored two runs. Jase Woita went 1 for 3, scored one run and had one strikeout. Brady Kern went 1 for 2, scored once and had one walk. Mason Davenport threw for 3.2 innings and let up six hits, five earned runs, two walks but tallied an impressive five strikeouts. Will Bartkoski threw two innings and had two walks, one strikeout and no earned runs. Dalton Smith came in for the save and let up one hit, one walk and recorded four strikeouts for the 1.1 innings he pitched.  

 

The Cougars had seven players with one hit. Robby Bolin, Grant Nottlemann, Ayden Hadley, Cole Schieffer, Owen Clyne, Kyle Horsman and Cooper Tabor. Bolin, Nottleman and Clyne all had one run as well. Bradley Feezer threw for three innings and let up six runs from one hit, one walk, one homerun and three strikeouts.

 

In game two, the Blue Devils recorded 10 hits with both Jase Woita and Frankie Santiago hitting homeruns. Woita went 2 for 5 from the plate, tallied a team-high three RBIs, scored once and didn't strikeout a single time. Goldbeck went 2 for 2 with three walks, three scored runs and had one RBI. Freddie Nolen IV had two singles with four plate appearances. Aaron Lewis threw 4.1 innings and had six hits, two earned runs with four strikeouts. Both of his runs came from solo homeruns. Donovan Johnson recorded the win throwing 3.2 innings while only letting up one hit, one earned run, three walks and five strikeouts.

The Cougars had seven hits as a team and two of them came from the leadoff hitter, Robby Bolin. Bolin went 2 for 4 and recorded one RBI and one run with a strikeout. Owen Clyne also had two hits with a walk. Jaron Cotton went 1 for 4 and had one RBI and two strikeouts. Aidan Sowers let up four hits, two runs and walked four Blue Devils during his four innings of action. Austin Young recorded the loss with letting up five runs from four hits, two walks and had two homeruns hit against him in his two innings of work. Jackson MacWilliams threw for two innings, let up two runs, one hit and had three strikeouts.

 

The next game for the Blue Devils is against the University of Sant Mary JV team at 3 p.m. Feb. 27 in Kansas City, Kan.
