Highland Softball Continues Winning Ways Beating Coastal Alabama-Bay Minette

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Highland softball continues to roll along on their 10-day road trip to the south picking up two more wins on Tuesday beating Coastal Alabama-Bay Minette 9-7 and 10-1.

With the wins the Scotties improve to 4-0 on the road trip and 6-3 on the season, while Heidi and Scott Jordan picked up their 500th career win at Highland with it coming in their 15th season coaching.  
Despite some early base runners in game one it was Bay Minette that struck first as the sent eight to the plate in the bottom of the second inning and scored three runs, when it looked like the Scotties would get out of the inning giving up just one run. Trailing 3-0 entering the fourth Highland got on the board with a solo home run by Sara Shinn and then tacked on another to trail 3-2. The lead swung the Scotties way in the fifth behind four hits in the inning including RBI singles from Alyssa Wesley and Allyssa Griggs making it 6-3. In the bottom of the fifth Bay Minette answered with two runs to make it a one run contest. Scotties looking for insurance runs in the seventh got them in a big way as Wesley blasted a ball over the fence for a three-run homer and the Scotties led 9-5 entering the bottom of the seventh, when Bay Minette attempted a comeback but scored only two runs leaving the tying runs on the bases as Highland won 9-7.

Bailey Lacy earned the win working six and one-third innings in the circle, while Kelly Uthe helped shut the door getting the final two outs of the game in the seventh. Offensively the Scotties pounded out 13 hits led by Wesley who was 3-3 with four RBI's, three runs scored, three-run homer, double and walk, while Griggs went 3-4 with a stolen base and run scored. Both Cassidy Greer and Alexis Hodapp each had two hits.

Game two it didn't take long for the Scotties to establish the lead as Chevelle Sartin led the game off with a triple and Hodapp had an RBI double to score her and then scored on an RBI single by Wesley to make it 2-0 Scotties in the first inning. Scotties tacked on another run in the third and two more in the fourth to lead 5-0 before Bay Minette got the lone run of the game coming in the bottom of the fifth. Highland cemented the game in their favor behind a five run sixth inning that was highlighted by a two RBI single from the hot bat of Griggs and the Scotties secured the 10-1 win in six innings for the sweep.

Sarah Bond was stout inside the circle as she tossed six innings giving up just one run on five hits, two walks and struckout two. Offensively the Scotties notched 12 hits, while Uthe going 3-3 with two RBI, and Griggs was 2-4 with three RBI's and two runs scored. Wesley and Sartin each had a two hit ballgame, also.

The game ball of the day went to Uthe who came in game one to record the final two outs of the contest inside the circle and preserve the Scottie win and followed that with a 3-3 game with two RBI's in game two.

With the wins the Scotties now sit at 6-3 on the season and continue their road trip on Wednesday, March 13th at Coastal Alabama-Brewton for a tripleheader slated to start at 9:00am. The Scotties will play Carl Sandburg out of Illinois at 9:00am and 11:00am, then play Coastal Alabama-Brewton at 1:00pm catch the games on the Scottie Sports Network.
