Lady Blue Devils Sneak by Neosho, 75-69

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team (17-7, 5-2) defeated the Neosho County Community College Panthers (17-6, 4-3), 75-69 Feb. 7 at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley. Ti'Ye Davis had a career day with a season-high 17 points and five rebounds (tied season-high) along with two assists. Where Davis really came to save the day was from the free-throw line. The Lady Blue Devils struggled down the stretch to convert on free throws but Davis went 12-15 on the game and 10-11 in the fourth quarter.

KCKCC's offense was led by Victoria Jones who scored 18 points, shooting 5-10 from the field and contributed six assists. Jada Johnson also had a strong performance, tallying 15 points while shooting 6-11 from the field and grabbing six rebounds. Symiah Bradley shot an impressive 5-8 from the field and brought down six rebounds. Jailynn Schmaltz came off the bench and tallied seven points and had a team-high 11 rebounds.

Of Neosho 15 players who participated in the game, three fouled out. As a team, the Panthers fouled the Lady Blue Devils 38 times, the most KCKCC has seen all season. Myah Coleman led the team in points with 11 and both Natalie Mesa and Toriauna Douglass finished the night with 10 points and combined for 10 rebounds, three steals and one assist. Chesleigh Apala came off the bench and had a total of 16 rebounds along with eight points. Out of the 15 Panther players that played, 11 of them has at least two points scored.

For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 43.8 percent from the field (21-48), 35.7 percent from three-point range (5-14) and 57.1 percent from the free-throw line (28-49). The Panthers shot 26 percent from the field (25-96), 20 percent from three-point range (8-40) and 57.9 percent from the free-throw line (11-19). During the game, there were 11 ties and 25 lead changes, the most for either team all season. Both teams tallied 24 points off turnovers.

The next game for the Lady Blue Devils is against the Johnson County Community College Cavaliers at 2 p.m. Feb. 10 in Overland Park, Kan.
