Blue Devils Hit 20-Win Mark with Win Over Labette, 75-51

The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team (20-9, 11-2) squashed Labette Community College (9-20, 2-11) on the road, 75-51 Feb. 24. Reginald Morris had an impressive night shooting 7-11 from behind the arc and led the team with 21 points. The Blue Devils remain top of the KJCCC with a record of 11-2 in conferece. Johnson County sits in second place with a conference record of 10-3.

Caleb Jones had a solid performance, scoring 10 points, converting on 3 out of 5 field goals and 4 out of 6 free throws. He also contributed a team-high seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Jaylon Moses scored 10 points, making 5 out of 7 field goals. He did not attempt any 3-pointers or free throws. He also grabbed two rebounds but didn't record any assists, steals or turnovers. O'shawn Jones-Winslow was a spark off the bench, scoring scored 10 points, making 5 out of 6 field goals. He also grabbed three rebounds. Pierce Ross scored nine points, making 3 out of 9 field goals and 1 out of 2 three-point attempts. He made 2 out of 3 free throws and brought down four rebounds.

Christian Yeates was a significant contributor for Labette, scoring 13 points while making 6 out of 11 field goals and 1 out of 3 free throws. He also grabbed two rebounds. Angelo Consorte scored 10 points, making 3 out of 5 field goals, including 1 three-pointer. He also went 3 for 4 from the free-throw line. He grabbed two rebounds, distributed one assist and stole the ball twice. Mohammed Maxamud scored seven points, making 3 out of 11 field goals and 1 out of 4 free throws. He missed both of his 3-point attempts, but grabbed two rebounds, distributed one assist and stole the ball once.

For the game, the Blue Devils shot 56.9 percent from the field (29-51), 50 percent from three-point range (8-16) and 69.2 percent from the free-throw line (9-13). Labette shot 35.2 percent from the field (19-54), 6.3 percent from three-point range (1-16) and 68.2 percent from the free-throw line (15-22).

The next game for the Blue Devils is against the Hesston College at 8 p.m. Feb. 28 at MCC-Penn Valley.
