Lady Blue Devils Lose to Undefeated JCCC, 58-41

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team (17-8, 5-3) fell to the Johnson County Community College Cavaliers (24-0, 8-0), 58-41 Feb. 9 in Overland Park, Kan.

Kansas City's offense was led by Jada Johnson who went 5-14 from the field and ended the day with 15 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal. Claire Suchma came off the bench and shot a perfect 2-2 from the field and 1-1 from both three-point land and the free throw line. All five points from Kaylyn Rogers came from the first quarter and she brought down five rebounds and two steals. Both Sarah Khamis and Victoria Jones tallied four points and added up for two rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block. Symiah Bradley had one field goal and that came from behind the three-point line in the first quarter.

Johnson County had three Cavaliers finish in double digits - Maizen Williams (19), Taliyah Scott (12) and Saige Grampsas (10). Williams shot an impressive 8-13 from the field and 3-5 from behind the arc. Amani Henry went 4-6 from the field and brought down eight rebounds, four steals, two blocks and one assist. The Cavaliers only had seven points come from their bench with Micah Landry recording five points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Grace Lynch went 1-5 from the field and had the two remaining bench points.

For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 37.8 percent from the field (14-37), 46.2 percent from three-point range (6-13) and 63.6 percent from the free-throw line (7-11). The Cavaliers shot 41.4 percent from the field (24-58), 41.7 percent from three-point range (5-12) and 38.5 percent from the free-throw line (5-13). There were three ties and six lead changes for the game. The Cavaliers ended the game with the largest lead at 17 points. The Lady Blue Devils were up five points with 1:41 on the clock in the first quarter.

The next game for the Lady Blue Devils is against the Highland Community College Scotties at 6 p.m. Feb. 13 at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley.
