Lady Greyhounds defeat SFCC

The Lady Roadrunners (6-5) experienced a cold shooting night Nov. 30 in the Davis Center in a loss to the Fort Scott Community College Lady Greyhounds 77-74.

SFCC led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter, but Fort Scott took control in the second quarter and outscored SFCC 21-13 to lead at halftime 32-28.

Freshman guard Takayla Gunter knocked down a three-point basket to tie the game at 41 with four minutes and 22 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Fort Scott led by one point at the end of three quarters and pushed the lead to 10 points with about four minutes in the final quarter.

Sophomore guard Danaé Cole pulled the Lady Roadrunners to within two with about a minute remaining. Gunter tied the game with a pair of free throws with 38 seconds on the clock. SFCC missed a three-point shot that would have tied the game as time expired. The Lady Roadrunners shot only 33% from the field for the game.

"We missed a lot of easy shots tonight," said Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "Then we got into a mode of shooting three-pointers when we could've taken better shots. Several times we cut the lead to one point, but then we didn't stop Fort Scott from taking the ball down the lane."

Sophomore guard Alexis Cowan led in scoring with 17 points. Cole contributed 14 points, and Gunter added 13. Cole pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Freshman guard Ren'Cia Rolling dished out a team-high five assists and also led in steals with four. Cowan led the team in blocked shots with three.

The Lady Roadrunners will travel to Southeastern Community College on Saturday, Dec. 3. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
