Johnson hits 1,000 career points as the Lady Blue Devils Hammer Metropolitan, 94-58

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team (12-5) defeated Metropolitan Community College (4-10), 94-58 Jan. 10 at MCC-Penn Valley. Adding to the victory, Jada Johnson surpassed 1,000 career points, finishing the night with 22 points and nine rebounds.

The Kansas City, Mo. native played the 2020-21 season with Kansas Christian College, finishing with 301 points. After transferring to KCKCC at the beginning of the 2022-23 season, Johnson averaged 14 PPG and finished with 364 points in the 26 games played. This season, Johnson has already accumulated 356 points in only 17 games played, averaging at 20.9 PPG.

"What a great accomplishment for Jada," said Head Coach Martina Mihailovic. "One thousand points on the collegiate level was one of her goals when she committed to play for us here at KCKCC. She worked really hard the past two years to make this happen. I am really proud of her."

Alexis Dukes shot a perfect 5-5 from the field and had a career high 16-point game with five rebounds and one assist. The forward from McPherson, Kan. has now scored in double figures in three consecutive games. Victoria Jones had a team high eight assists and tallied 14 points and two steals. Jailynn Schmaltz came off the bench and had 14 points while bringing down eight rebounds. Sarah Khamis had eight points, four assists, three steals and one rebound.

The Wolves were led by Kennedi Rowland who shot 9-16 from the field and ended with 19 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and two assists. There were two other Wolves who finished in double digits, Lauren Bogle (14) and Amaya Barnes (12). Tyana Evans finished with five points, one assist, one rebound and one block.

For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 55.4 percent from the field (36-65), 31.8 percent from three-point range (7-22) and 60 percent from the free-throw line (15-25). The Blue Devils scored more than 20 points every quarter of the game (23, 20, 28 and 23). The Wolves shot 32.4 percent from the field (22-68), 17.4 percent from three-point range (4-23) and 71.4 percent from the free-throw line (10-14).

The next game for the Lady Blue Devils is the conference opener against the Neosho County Community College Panthers at 2 p.m. Jan. 13 in Chanute.
