Lady Blue Devils Annihilate Labette, 101-61

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team (15-7, 3-2) trampled the Labette Community College Cardinals (3-15, 0-5), 101-61 Jan. 31 at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley. Victoria Jones ended the night with 17 points, 16 assists and nine rebounds. She was just one rebound short of a triple double and broke a KCKCC women's basketball record for assists in a single game.

Kansas City's offense was led by standout performances from Jada Johnson and Jones, who contributed significantly to the team's 60 percent field goal percentage. Johnson displayed remarkable accuracy, connecting on 12 of 15 field goal attempts and adding three 3-pointers, accumulating an impressive 33 points. Symiah Bradley finished the night with 14 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal. Both Kaylyn Rogers and Jailynn Schmaltz tallied 13 points, and they combined for 14 rebounds. Bennett Peck came off the bench and supplied the team with two 3-pointers and seven total points.

Labette's offensive efforts were led by Kynlee Lakey, who managed to contribute 13 points, and Makayla Adams and Makayla Washington, both adding 12 points each. Lakey also had a double double with bringing down 12 rebounds on top of her 13 points. Denym Sanders came off the bench and had eight points with two assists. Kenly Dixon went three of four from the field and finished with six points, one rebound and one steal.

For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 60 percent from the field (36-60), 29.4 percent from three-point range (5-17) and 75 percent from the free-throw line (24-32). The Cardinals shot 36.2 percent from the field (25-69), 5.9 percent from three-point range (1-17) and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line (10-15). Labette faced difficulties protecting the ball, committing 20 turnovers, which KCKCC capitalized on with 25 assists and 10 steals.

The next game for the Lady Blue Devils is against the Hesston College Larks at 1 p.m. Feb. 3 in Hesston, Kan.
