Blue Devils Finish Regular Season Splitting with Fort Scott, 6-2 and 12-10

The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team (34-18) split with Fort Scott Community College (35-17) 6-2 and 12-10 May 4 at the Fort Scott softball field. Both teams entered their last regular season series with a conference record of 15-5. The KJCCC postseason tournament is set to start May 8 at the Lake Shawnee Softball Complex in Topeka, Kan.

 

In the first game, the Blue Devils had a team total 12 hits. Gabrielle King had a solid day at the plate going 2-2 with three RBI. McKenna Lester recorded two hits and two RBI. The last RBI came from Adrianna Smith who recorded one hit. Kylie Vandervoort, Annika Smith and Savannah Short had multi-hit games, while Kloey Dawes, Lester and King all had a double in game one.

 

Alyssa Droge allowed two runs from the seven Greyhound hits. Droge had double digit strikeouts for the fourth time this season with 10. She also managed to not walk a single batter.   

 

For the second game, there was a total 34 hits, 18 for the Blue Devils and the remaining 16 came from the Greyhounds. Both Sydney Becker and Dawes recorded three hits and added up four RBI and a home run for each. Lester added two home runs to her season total and had four RBI. The Blue Devils were down 6-2 heading into the sixth inning but eight runs in the sixth and seventh innings were not enough as Fort Scott scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth.  

 

Hanna Acree threw for the first five innings letting up six runs, four earned, off the 10 Greyhound hits. Lillian Fisher entered the game in the sixth inning and let up six runs from six hits.

 

The next series for the Blue Devils will be the first round of the KJCCC postseason tournament starting on May 8 in Topeka, Kan.
