Blue Devils Clobber Highland, 85-54

The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team (17-9, 8-2) beat the Highland Community College Scotties (15-11, 5-5), 85-54 Feb. 13 at MCC-Penn Valley. For the first time this season, the Blue Devils shot 100 percent from the free-throw line (13-13).

Pierce Ross emerged as a key scoring option off the bench, leading the team in scoring with 19 points. He showcased his shooting prowess, particularly from beyond the arc, where he connected on 2 of his 5 attempts. He was also perfect from the free-throw line, going 5-5. Jaylon Moses finished the night with 18 points, shooting 6-11 from the field. Moses also contributed defensively with two steals and one block, showcasing his impact on both ends of the floor. Mikequese Taylor provided a spark off the bench with his scoring output, tallying 18 points on an efficient 8-11 shooting. He also made his presence felt on the defensive end, recording an impressive five steals. BJ Stewart provided valuable contributions in the paint, particularly on the boards, where he grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, including three offensive rebounds. Although he scored nine points on 4-7 shooting, his presence on the glass was instrumental in creating second-chance opportunities for his team. Stewart also chipped in defensively with one steal. Reginald Morris made a significant impact from beyond the arc, knocking down 3 triples on 7 attempts, contributing nine points to the team's scoring effort. Michael Everett recorded his fifth field goal on the year, ending with two points and had an in-and-out three point shot in the fourth quarter.

Tosh Lyons led the Scotties with 13 points, one rebound and one steal. He went 4-6 from the field and connected on one of his two 3-point attempts. Bubba Leavell and Chris Flippin both ended the night with nine points each and added up for six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal. Mikhali Roberts came off the bench and went 3-6 from the field, ending with eight points. Dayveon Turner had a tough day shooting, going 0-9 from the field, but he converted 3 of his 4 free-throw attempts.

For the game, the Blue Devils shot 48.5 percent from the field (32-66), 27.6 percent from three-point range (8-29) and 100 percent from the free-throw line (13-13). The Scotties shot 24.5 percent from the field (13-53), 20 percent from three-point range (5-25) and 76.7 percent from the free-throw line (23-20). The Blue Devils dominated in the paint, outscoring the Scotties 44 to 16. Pierce Ross and Mikequese Taylor exploded for 37 of the 29 Blue Devil bench points.

The next game for the Blue Devils is against the Allen County Community College Red Devils at 4 p.m. Feb. 17 in Iola, Kan.
