Balanced attack leads Lady Tiger soccer to 5-0 win over Seward

Facing last place Seward County Wednesday at the Mark A. Phillips Athletic Complex, the No. 16-ranked Cowley College women's soccer team, got goals from five players in the 5-0 home win.

Cowley shutout its opponent for the third straight game, as they are 2-0-1 in those contests. The win on Wednesday improves the Lady Tigers' record to 6-1-3 on the season.

"We played our style and kept up the intensity the entire game," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said.

Cowley put the game away early by scoring four times in the opening half. Himari Sato assisted on the Lady Tigers' first two goals, which Lea Evin and Lucia Rivas scored. Himari Sato and Fenja Leibner also scored as Cowley took a 4-0 lead into halftime.

Evellyn Borges added her first goal of the season early in the second half, and the Lady Tigers went on to the 5-0 win.

"It was good to see several players score for us," dos Santos said. "I hope this will give some of the girls more confidence."

Cowley goalkeeper Kanon Dehama stopped the only shot she faced and recorded her third straight shutout.

"Kanon is a good goalkeeper for us, and our defense is taking pride in not letting balls get through," dos Santos said.

Seward (1-9-2) falls to 1-9-1 in conference play.

Cowley will play at Dodge City on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Conquistadors (3-6-3) are 2-6-3 in the conference. The teams battled to a 2-2 tie on September 6 in Arkansas City.

Dodge City has played three of the top teams in the conference over the past week and defeated Kansas City in between a pair of one-goal defeats against Hutchinson and Barton County.

"Dodge City has been causing trouble for the top teams in our conference, so we need to be prepared for a tough road contest," dos Santos said.
