Blue Devils Lose in Tight Race Against JCCC, 70-67

The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team (10-8, 1-1) lost a close game to Johnson County Community College (15-3, 1-1), 70-67 Jan. 17 at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley. The Blue Devils and Cavaliers had a total of 10 lead changes and five ties during the contest. Pierce Ross took the final shot in regulation with two seconds remaining on the clock but could not convert.

The Blue Devils had four players finish in double digits. Camron Williford tallied 11 points, three steals, two assists, two rebounds and a blocked shot. Caleb Jones finished with a 10 point and 10 rebound double double while getting five assists and two blocked shots. Reginald Morris went 3-5 from behind the arc and had 11 points with three rebounds and one assist. Pierce Ross came off the bench and scored 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and one block. Mikequese Taylor had eight points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal.

The Cavaliers were led by Brandon Mann who finished the night with 19 points, four rebounds and one steal. Massi Malterer tallied 13 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Donald Bangham Jr. scored 10 points and brought down six rebounds. Elijah Cole came off the bench and led the team with 10 rebounds while finishing with six points and three assists.

For the game, the Blue Devils shot 44.8 percent from the field (26-58), 45.8 percent from three-point range (11-24) and 80 percent from the free-throw line (4-5). The Cavaliers shot 37.9 percent from the field (25-66), 26.7 percent from three-point range (8-30) and 54.5 percent from the free-throw line (12-22).

The next game for the Blue Devils is against the Highland Community College Scotties at 3 p.m. Jan. 20 in Highland, Kan.
