Blue Devils Sweep Hesston, 12-3 and 12-1

The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team (24-14) swept Hesston College (8-68) 12-3 and 12-1 Apr. 11 at the KCKCC Softball Field. With these two wins, this now marks six wins in a row, and the Blue Devils are currently tied for third place in the KJCCC with Neosho County Community College.

In the first game, every Blue Devil batter recorded a hit. Both Kylie Vandervoort and Jaycee Long had multi-hit games combing for 4-5 at the plate, two RBI and three runs. Adrianna Smith, McKenna Lester, Savannah Short and Vandervoort all had two RBI. Sydney Becker, Annika Smith and Kylie Vandervoort all had doubles and Adrianna Smith hit the lone home run in the game.

Alyssa Droge threw for the first 4.1 innings adding six strikeouts while letting up three runs and six hits. Alexis Smith came in to close the game letting up just one hit and one strikeout in her .2 innings of work.

For the second game, Short and Vandervoort stood as the leaders for the Blue Devils combining for eight RBI and both recording a home run. Long once again had a great game going 2-3 and added two doubles. Kloey Dawes and Adrianna Smith both went 2-3, had two RBI and scored twice. Gabrielle King went for a perfect 2-2 at the plate and scored twice.

Hanna Acree went the distance while letting up just one hit, one run, two walks and five strikeouts. Acree is now fourth in the KJCCC with an impressive 2.63 ERA and fourth in wins with 13.
