Highland Men's Basketball Notches 17th Win of Season

After a long holiday break the #2 Highland Men's basketball team hit the hardwood for the first time in 2019 calendar and got the season rolling again by hosting On Point Academy. 

The Scotties secured their 17th win of the season by earning the 119-75 win over On Point Academy, moving their win streak to 20-straight regular season games and remain undefeated on the season moving to 17-0 on the year. 

Highland jumped out early to take control of the contest working to a 12-0 start over the first four minutes and 20 seconds of the contest. The lead continued to balloon early for the Scotties as they stretched it out over 20 points and poured in more and more points from several guys on their way to a 64-43 lead at halftime. The second half saw much of the same from the Scotties as they continued to pour in the points from several different avenues getting second chance opportunities, raining in three-pointers, layups and more. Scotties reached the century mark at the 6:43 mark on a DJ Doakes three-pointer and went over 100 points for the sixth time this season and went on to win 119-75 over On Point Academy. 

In the win Highland shot 50.5% as a team marking the tenth time this season the Scotties have shot over 50% as a team in a game, while they also went 10-22 from three-point range. Scotties also dominated the boards winning that battle 58-32, while registering 14 steals and forcing 19 turnovers from On Point Academy. The 58 rebounds is the most in a single game this season for Highland and the Scotties also have only nine turnovers marking the fifth time this season the team had less than 10 turnovers in a game. 

Five guys tallied double figures on the night including a pair of career high performances for the Scotties. Luiz Machado Jr. went 8-16 from the floor including 5-10 from three-point range and 6-9 from the charity stripe to finish with a career best 27 points and added six rebounds. Taiveyhon Mason chipped in 24 points for his 41st career double figure performance and did it on 9-12 shooting, while adding four rebounds and four assists. Tristen Hull posted 18 points on the night going 8-15 from the floor and added nine rebounds and two steals, while both Rashon Johnson and Amear Johnson each posted 11 points. Rashon added seven rebounds and Amear grabbed three rebounds and had three assists. Andre Jackson chipped in nine points and seven rebounds, while Jaquan Daniels had a solid stat line of six points, five rebounds, five assists and seven steals.
