No. 18 Blue Devils Sweep Neosho, 5-4 and 6-1

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team (38-6) swept Neosho County Community College (28-19) 5-4 and 6-1 Apr. 20 at Hudson Field in Chanute, Kan. With these two wins, the Blue Devils are back on a streak with winning their last nine games.

In the first game, the Blue Devils started off hot scoring two runs in the first inning. Gehrig Goldbeck had three hits, and Freddie Nolen IV recorded two doubles while knocking in three runners. Frankie Santiago also had two singles and two RBI. Marcus Dierks had a hit and added a run toward the Blue Devil total.

Aaron Lewis (4-0) recorded his fourth win of the season going six innings letting in just one run from three hits and three walks. He tied his second-best strikeout performance with seven. Dalton Smith entered the game in the seventh inning and didn't let in a run or hit.

For the second game, Nolen kept his hot streak going with three hits and an RBI, and Brady Patterson and Santiago both had two hits. Dierks had one RBI, which puts him at seven straight games with scoring an RBI.

Donovan Johnson (4-1) recorded the win letting up just three hits and one run in his five innings of work. He also struck out six Panthers, a career high. Caleb Deer, Caleb Reed, Will Bartkoski and Gavin Killion finished the game letting in three runs without giving up a single hit.

The next game for the Blue Devils is against Baker University at 2 p.m. Apr. 22 at the KCKCC baseball field.
