Lady Tigers rough up Bethany JV, 17-4 and 10-2

The No. 20-ranked Cowley College softball team got a pair of home runs from sophomore Emily Louderback and cruised to run-rule wins over the Bethany JV Monday at the Ed Hargrove Field in Arkansas City. The Lady Tigers won the opener 17-4 before taking the nightcap 10-2.

Cowley is now 8-3 overall and improved its record to 5-0 at home.

In Monday's opener, the Lady Tigers scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning and needed only five innings to run-rule the Lady Swedes. Paige Scanlin led Cowley with four runs batted in, while Emily Louderback went 2-for-3 with a home run, four runs scored, and two runs batted in. Shayne Roberts also played well, while going 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.

Cowley's Jaiden Swanson (3-1) allowed three hits and one earned run in three innings pitched. Alissa Nuno tossed the final two innings.

In game two, Cowley got home runs from Louderback and Scanlin and cruised to the six-inning win. Scanlin had three of the Lady Tigers' 10 hits and drove in three runs.

"I really thought Paige and Emily had great days at the plate for us and came up big when we needed runs," Cowley head coach Jenny Hoyt said. "Overall, we did a great job of putting pressure on their defense, and we had a lot of ground balls that we got on base with."

Cowley freshman Mikah Vann (4-1) went the distance on the mound, allowing only two hits while striking out four.

The Lady Tigers will remain home to play doubleheaders against the Kansas Wesleyan University JV on Thursday and Dodge City on Friday. Both doubleheaders will begin at 1 p.m.
