Blue Devils Split with First Appearance vs Fort Scott, 8-7 and 6-5

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team (40-7) split with Fort Scott Community College (36-14) 8-7 and 6-5 Apr. 24 in Fort Scott, Kan. The Blue Devils have tied the number of wins that they achieved last season with 40 in 16 less games played thus far.

 

In the first game, the Blue Devils outhit the Greyhounds 13-9 with an error each. Both teams got on the scoreboard in the first inning and were tied at four after the third inning. Peyton Basler and Jackson Mervosh both had three hits each. Gehrig Goldbeck, Brady Patterson and Frankie Santiago all had two RBI and combined for five hits. Santiago hit his 11th home run on the season and recorded a double.

 

Maclane Finley started the game and let up seven hits and four runs in his three innings of work. He struck out four batters and walked two. Bryson Vawter got the win going for two innings and let in three runs off two hits and two walks. Dalton Smith got his second save striking out two Greyhounds.

 

For the second game, there were three home runs, and the Blue Devils put together a three run eighth inning to tie the game at five a piece. Patterson hit a two-run home run. Just one pitch later, Santiago hit a solo home run off the Greyhound scoreboard in left field. Freddie Nolen IV led the team with three hits and added two RBI. Marcus Dierks makes it five consecutive games with a hit. 

 

Mason Davenport threw for six innings letting in five runs from the six Greyhound hits. He also struck out eight batters tying his season high. Will Bartkoski recorded the loss, giving up four hits and one run in his 1.1 innings. Caleb Reed struck out one and walked one in his .2 innings.

 

The next series for the Blue Devils is against Fort Scott Community College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. April 27 at the KCKCC baseball field.
