It took less than five minutes Tuesday for Kansas City Kansas Community College to take control of its women's soccer game with Metropolitan Community College.

Sophomore Mia Hurt scored in the first minute and 36 seconds, followed by a goal around the three-minute mark from Piper freshman Sierra Montez, making the score 2-0. The early goals propelled the Blue Devils to a dominating 6-0 win. Both goals were assisted by sophomore Jordan Bedard.

The win boosted KCKCC's record to 5-1-1 and sets up a huge home test against unbeaten and 11th ranked Hutchinson (6-0) at 6 p.m. Saturday. Hutch is one of five nationally ranked Jayhawk teams along with No. 8 Barton County, No. 14 Cowley, No. 16 Butler and No. 18 KCKCC.

Six Blue Devils scored, and two others had assists in the win over MCC. In addition to those by Montez and Hurt, freshman Cora Ellermann took a pass from sophomore Cordilia Payne for a 3-0 lead at the 24:03 mark and freshman forward Jaycee Schumann gave the Blue Devils a 4-0 halftime lead with an unassisted goal with 11 minutes left. A spectacular mid-air goal by Bedard on a pass from Montez opened the second half scoring at 34:47, and sophomore Emma Gervy wrapped up the scoring on an assist from freshman Alayna Edwards with 12:23 remaining.

"A real good effort after a tough first loss at Butler Saturday," said KCKCC Coach Shawn Uhlenhake. "This gave us an opportunity to get everyone a lot of playing time and ready for unbeaten Hutchinson on Saturday."

While no such records are available, the Blue Devils probably set a team record for shots (34) and shots on goal (21) as they continually attacked Wolves' goalkeeper Abigail Ferguson, who had 14 saves. Meanwhile, the Blue Devil defense allowed just four shots, all on goal and all turned away by freshman goalkeeper Maria Heuman.
