No. 18 Blue Devils Sweep Labette, 5-1 and 15-6

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team (27-3) took down Labette Community College (9-20) 5-1 and 15-6 Mar. 30 in Parsons, Kan. Gehrig Goldbeck is currently the Division I leader in batting average boasting an outstanding .533 average. He went for a perfect 4-4 in game one and 2-3 in game two.

In the first game, Goldbeck stood out with an impressive four hits in four at-bats, scoring twice and driving in a run. He also recorded a double and the only home run for the Blue Devils. Peyton Basler added to the offensive effort with one hit, one run, and one RBI in four at-bats. Jase Woita drove in two runs with one hit in four at-bats. Brady Patterson and Marcus Dierks each recorded a hit, with Patterson also drawing a walk and scoring a run. Frankie Santiago added two hits to the team's effort while recording a double. Brady Kern went one for three and struck out one time.

Aaron Lewis went the distance and let up just one run from four Cardinal hits and struck out four batters.

For the second game, Basler led the charge, delivering a standout performance with three hits in five at-bats, including four RBIs and two runs scored. He also hit the ball over the fence twice. Goldbeck contributed significantly with two hits and two runs scored in three at-bats. Jackson Mervosh also made his presence felt with three hits, including two RBIs and one run scored in five at-bats. Woita added to the offensive onslaught with one home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Patterson showcased his power at the plate, driving in three runs with a home run in six at-bats. Santiago had a stellar outing, recording three hits, three runs scored, and three RBIs with two home runs. Dierks and Kern contributed with two hits each, while Dierks got his first home run on the season.

There were four Blue Devil pitchers who gave up a total seven hits, six runs, six walks and eight strikeouts. Donovan Johnson recorded the win throwing for three innings and giving up just one hit and striking out four Cardinal batters.

The next game for the Blue Devils is against Metropolitan Community College at 1 p.m. Apr. 2 at the Blue Devil baseball field.
