Highland Softball Rolls Past Southeast Moving Win Streak to 10

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Another Scottie Sweep for the #5 Highland softball team on Wednesday afternoon marked wins number 29 and 30 of the season giving Coaches Heidi and Scott Jordan 30 or more wins in 14 of their 15 seasons coaching the Scotties.

Highland snagged a pair of run-rule 8-0 wins over Southeast Community College in six and five innings improving to 30-10 on the season.

Scotties got the scoring rolling in game one getting a single by Chevelle Sartin and she ultimately came around to score on an error by Southeast making it 1-0. Highland tacked on two more runs in the second inning as Sartin notched a two RBI single scoring Alyssa Wesley and Brianna Minton who lead the inning off with back-to-back hits. Minton brought in a run in the third with an RBI single and the Scotties got a double by Alley Rickel in the fifth and she scored on a RBI single by Sirena Salazar. In the bottom of the sixth the Scotties finished the game with a three runs on just one hit, two hit batters, a fielder's choice and Southeast error which scored the final run of the game lifting the Scotties to the an 8-0 six inning win.

Perhaps the star of the game wasn't even the offense for the Scotties it was the pitching of Kelly Uthe who shutdown Southeast giving up just three base runners as she tossed the six inning shutout. Uthe gave up just two hits and a walk, while striking out seven in the win.

At the plate Sartin was 3-3 with two runs scored, two RBI's, a hit by pitch and stolen base, while Minton went 2-2 with a run scored and RBI.

Game two was nearly the same as game one with plenty of Scottie offense and another strong pitching outing. Scotties got on the board again in the first inning as an infield single by Isabella Konieczka led the inning off and she raced her way around the bases to score. Highland then sent eight to the plate in the bottom of the second scoring five, highlighted by an RBI single by Konieczka and a three run home run by Alexis Hodapp to make it 6-0 after just two innings. Hodapp notched an RBI double in the fourth helping the Scotties ultimately score two more runs and then shutdown Southeast in the top of the fifth to earn the 8-0 win in five innings.

Sarah Bond was strong in the circle in game two as she tossed a five inning shutout giving up three hits and a hit batter in the contest, while striking out three.

At the dish Konieczka was 3-3 with two runs scored, and RBI and pair of stolen bases, while Hodapp went 3-3 with four RBI's, a home run, run scored and double. Kennedy Meyer went 2-2 with a run scored, while several other Scotties had got on base.

Highland is set to wrap up the regular season on Tuesday, April 30th at home with a doubleheader against Iowa Western slated for a 2:00pm start time.
