Highland Men Pick Up 21st Win of Season Topping KCK

Looking to remain towards the top of the standings in the KJCCC the #3 Highland men's basketball team took on Kansas City Kansas Community College on Saturday and held off KCK's late attempt at a comeback to secure a 69-61 win.

The win moves Highland to 21-2 on the season and 3-1 in KJCCC play sitting the Scotties in second place in the Conference standings. Win moved the Scotties win streak over KCK to six straight games.

After working up to multiple six-point leads over the first nine minutes of the first half Highland saw KCK snag a 14-13 lead just under 11 minutes to go in the first half. The game would be tied at 20-20 with 6:34 remaining before halftime and the Scotties would then get a 5-0 spurt by the hands of Taiveyhon Mason and finish the first half outscoring KCK 18-10 over the six and half minutes giving Highland a 38-30 lead at the half.

It didn't take long for Highland to take firm control of the game in the second half working the lead to double figures in the first half of the second half and pushing the lead out to over 20 points behind an 18-1 run to open the second half of the first six minutes of the second half. That lead however didn't stay that large as KCK chipped at the lead and down the stretch were within striking distance late and the Scotties had to secure the win late with big buckets and free throws earning the 69-61 win.

Highland shot 47.2% from the field in the victory and shared the ball well with 16 assists on 25 made field goals.

Mason led the Scotties again posting 21 points on 8-14 shooting, while Jaquan Daniels tallied 12 points and a career best six assists and had five steals. Tristen Hull chipped in double figures for the 11th time in the last 12 games as he scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds.
