Allen vs. Cowley

The Lady Red Devils traveled to Arkansas City this afternoon to take on the hot shooting team of Cowley. The ladies knew coming into the game that Cowley would live and die by the 3 point line and this would never be more true for the game. The ladies got off to a good start by playing man to man defense and keeping their shooters under control. However, the ladies struggled to knock shots down on offense as the pressure defense of Cowley got to them. The ladies would be down 10-18 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter would be a disaster for the ladies as Cowley would go on a 23-3 run and would knock down 5 3s in transition to run away with the half. The ladies completely folded on defense, lost focus and were mentally out of the game. The halftime score would leave the Devils down 17-48.

In the third quarter, the ladies would not make any kind of run to chip away at the lead and Cowley would win the quarter by 4 points. Akia Andrews would lead the ladies by attacking the paint but it was too little, too late. The lack of effort on the defensive end would continue throughout the duration of the game along with poor shooting on offense. Cowley ended up hitting 12 3s in the game and would shoot 40% from the field. The final score ended 40-86.

The ladies were led by Akia Andrews with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Kendra Houston added 7 points while Katelyn Swanson and Tamera Shaver added 6 each. The ladies are now 3-4 in conference and will have their next game against Seward at home on December 7th.
